IDEX Grantees in Africa Receive Recognition

At IDEX it is our privilege to hear many inspiring stories of women who have extraordinary vision and strength to create change in their communities.

IDEX has recently learned that the determination and dedication of 20 women in Africa has been recognized by the African Women of Empowerment Award.

We are proud to announce that three of these women are IDEX grantees.

Prudence Mabele, Positive Women's Network in South Africa;
Betty Makoni, Girl Child Network in Zimbabwe; and
Sizane Ngubane, Rural Women's Movement in South Africa.

Prudence, Betty and Sizane join 17 other women in Africa who met the criteria of an Empowering Woman which is defined by the committee as a woman who:

1. Is a positive role model and demonstrates leadership in her chosen field;
2. Has made an impact at local, national and/or international levels;
3. Has been the first to initiate an activity that made living conditions better for others;
4. Embodies excellence and leadership in her field of endeavor, and
5. Has shown courage in public life and public service or is/has been involved in a great cause for the betterment of humanity.

The award will allow the women to better document their work and receive greater visibility on both a national and international level. IDEX warmly congratulates all of the winners of the African Women of Empowerment.
